Racing for a Cancer Cure

Added : 29/07/2009
By : Mark Walker

Gold Coast based Wilson Brothers Racing have today announced that they will be the official motorsport ambassadors for the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation, starting at Sandown this weekend with the sixth round of the Yokohama V8 Utes Series.

The team will be using their motorsport activities to raise awareness of the ongoing efforts of the foundation in supporting research into finding a cure for cancer, a cause very close to the hearts of the Wilson brothers.

20 years ago Cameron and Benn Wilson lost their mother to cancer, and since that time the pair have worked hard to support cancer charities.

"Unfortunately cancer affects the lives of virtually everybody in the community, and sadly several family members and friends of the WBR family are currently fighting through this horrible disease," said Wilson.

"Cure Cancer Australia does a marvellous job raising awareness and funds to assist in finding a cure, and I am very proud for the team to be associated with the Foundation.

"We plan to lever our fortunate position within the various motorsport classes we compete in to raise awareness of Cure Cancer Australia, and ultimately contribute to the cause of finding a cure."

On the track, the team will be known as 'Wilson Brothers Racing- Racing for a Cure', as they compete in the V8 Utes Series and the Australian Manufacturers Championship.

The team meanwhile has been flat out preparing Kurt Wimmer's VE Holden Ute for this weekend's round of the championship at Sandown.

Following on from borrowing an engine for the previous round of the championship in Townsville, the team has now installed their new Craigsted control engine, and are looking forward to a gain in power on the long Sandown straights.

"The engine should really put us on par with the rest of the cars on the field," said Wilson.

"Kurt has still been getting some strong results despite being down on horsepower, and this is the first track since Adelaide that he has previously raced at, so we expect him to be on the pace from the start of the weekend."

The Wilson brothers have also been busy in the past week putting the finishing touches on their new state-of-the-art European standard go-kart circuit, Gold Coast Indoor Hire Karts, which will adorn the tailgate of Wimmer's number 32 ute at Sandown.

Wilson Brothers Racing is proud to be supported by Gametraders, Deluxe Screen Printing, Castrol and Gold Coast Indoor Hire Karts.

You can follow all of the action from he V8 Utes Series at www.wilsonbrothersracing.com.
