Castle Takes a Clean Sweep at Morgan Park

By : Mark Walker

Lee Castle took a clean sweep of the Australian Manufacturers Championship race wins at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend aboard the Wilson Brothers Racing Subaru WRX Sti, and now has his sights firmly set on the championship prize.

After picking up the opening race in dramatic fashion yesterday, Castle cruised to victory by 10-seconds and five-seconds in the respective races today, in the process erasing the memories of previous round of the championship at Eastern Creek.

Castle jumped into the lead at the start of the morning race, however heavy contact from behind from Mitsubishi driver Rod Salmon saw the car momentarily off track.

While Salmon spun out, Castle regained his composure and track position, and held on for the victory.

In the 18-lap reverse grid handicap race number three, Salmon made the best start of the scratch markers, with Castle hot on heels.

The Subaru driver however pounced on an error mid-race and skillfully carved his way through the slower traffic to take the race win.

The home-track round win mirrors the clean sweep the crew accomplished at Symmons Plains in 2008.

“All in all, not a bad weekend as we achieved what we needed to in front of our Queensland fans,” said Castle.

“A big thank you must go to the Wilson Brothers Racing crew and Steve Briffa for helping to panel beat the car after the damage we received yesterday, that was an awesome effort.

“The championship is now back on track, and we expect a big turn out of competitors and some quality racing at the next round at Oran Park.”

Team principal Cam Wilson was over the moon with the effort displayed by the team in tuning the car for the weekend, and Castle’s forceful driving.

“I am absolutely stoked for Subaru to take a clean sweep and win the round overall, especially at home here at Morgan Park,” said Wilson.

“Lee drove three perfect races, you couldn’t ask for more than that.

“I really must thank our major supporters in Gold Coast Indoor Hire Karts and Cure Cancer Australia, I think we turned on a great show in front of a big crowd here this weekend.”

The Australian Manufacturers Championship continues at Oran Park with the penultimate round of the series in three weeks time, a circuit which Castle is familiar with after a strong run there in 2008.

Lee Castle and Wilson Brothers Racing would like to thank Gold Coast Indoor Hire Karts, Cure Cancer Australia, Castrol, Subaru Parts Australia, Mercury Motorsport, Ecutek, MRT Performance, Ingear Industries, Racer Industries, Harris Visual 3D and Deluxe Screen Printing for their continued support.
